Sorbion® Technology: Setting new standards in exudate management

At Cutimed®, we understand that effective wound care requires more than just a wound dressing. The individual design concept of Sorbion Technology, formerly known as Hydration Response Technology (HRT), combines numerous performance factors to aid in the promotion of optimal healing conditions for a variety of chronic wound types and can only be found in Cutimed® Sorbion® wound dressings.

Once exudate is absorbed, the superabsorbent polymers in the dressing form into a soft gel with a moist outer shell. Sorbion Technology dressings feature a central fibre matrix, constructed from a combination of cellulose fibrils closely bound with gel-forming polymers. This design ensures that moisture remains on the wound side of the product, while excess exudate is efficiently transported away from the wound. This helps to prevent wound maceration, promotes moist wound healing and leads to a removal of wound healing inhibiting factors, including bacteria, MMPs, proteases, and inflammatory mediators.1, 2

Absorb

Sorbion Technology promotes the healing needs of chronic wounds using superabsorbent polymers that form into a soft gel with a moist outer shell once exudate is absorbed.

Expansion rim

The high tear strength of the outer layer and the design of the central matrix ensure the dressing remains intact even when significant volumes of fluid have been absorbed. The expansion rim allows Cutimed Sorbion to expand evenly, reducing bulging. This helps to ensure broad contact with the wound bed and to maintain a moist wound environment for healing.

Features

  • Rounded edges of the superabsorbent core and outer envelope ensure patient comfort
  • Even expansion of the dressing can result in a reduction of pressure marks
  • Retains the majority of absorbed exudate and bacteria even under compression 1, 2
  • Adjusts to the wound’s moisture levels, ensuring an optimal healing environment 3
  • Supports wound healing by avoiding dehydration and maceration 3
  • Ensures that there is still moisture on the wound side of the product while excessive exudate is transported away from the wound
  • Conformable to wound and body contours for effective exudate management
  • Protection of wound edges and peri-wound skin from maceration 1, 3
  • Soft debridement minimises the treatment effort 1, 3, 4
